Your handy mini-guide to the eurozone crisis

These are turbulent times for Europe. The European debt crisis has dominated headlines, toppled elected leaders, and even called into question the survival of the Euro itself. In fact, not a day goes by without headlines screaming about the eurozone in crisis.

But what are the key issues at stake? What exactly caused the crisis...and what might happen next? Julian Knight walks you through the issues and explains - in plain English - what the crisis means for you, and for the global economy.

Open the book and find

  • How the crisis came about
  • What it means to you
  • Crystal ball predictions on what might happen next
  • ‘Must know' facts about the crisis

The Euro Crisis For Dummies eBook Julian Knight

I was surprised at the brevity of this. If you read the Wikipedia entry, you will save yourself money, although it might take you as long to read it. :-) I suppose the "For Dummies" ebook format is different from the "For Dummies" books we see in bookstores.

Some statements are imprecise and misleading.

For example, according to The Euro Crisis For Dummies, Germany is supposed to owe little and Spain a lot. Does this refer to central government's private debt, or what? Usually the use of a country's name would suggest the central government or all governments. The entire public debt of Spain was 63.4% of GDP in 2010. The estimated public debt for Germany in 2010 was 83.4% of GDP; 81.5% in 2011. The newspaper El País reported that "Spain's public debt surged to a historic record high during the last quarter of 2011" The figure? 68.5 percent of GDP.

Everybody makes mistakes and we cannot condemn any text because there is an error in it. However, this sort of error keeps us from understanding the nature of the Euro crisis. Unless I am making a mistake. :-)

On the positive side, the leaflet -too short to be a book- does provide a little background on what precisely is meant by "Europe". And it does cover most of the issues in a concise manner.

If you are like me and really like to understand how things work, take all it says with a grain of salt and use it as a starting point. DON'T consider it as a briefing on the Euro crisis.

If you simply want to be able to carry a conversation about this topic and don't mind repeating inaccuracies, this will do the job.

The Euro Crisis For Dummies eBook Julian Knight Reviews

It gives you great insight of how they get where they are and what can happen next. A good reading
Just as the cover to the book said, this book made the basics of banksterism as it applies to Europe understandable.
I really wanted to learn more about the implications of the economic crisis in Europe. Amidst the sea of current events articles and essays which already assumed their audience had a background on the topic, this book was the answer to my queries on the subject. Recommended if you aren't necessarily enthralled by economics, but still care about its role now and in the future.
I read this minibook in half an hour. Although it is short, I found it to be a gem, worthy of keeping as a reference. At this incredibly low price, it represents amazing value. Go for it!
The one redeeming feature of this book is its brevity. It provides -- at best -- only the most superficial treatment of its subject, and most readers will be pleased to finish with this work quickly so that they might begin the search for something just a bit more substantial and insightful.
Yep, it's for dummies all right....and at least I learned I wasn't one!

It's way too basic and didn't cover enough of the historical background and all the contributing factors.
This book is the ideal tool for the non expert to raise their level of awareness of the euro and the overall euro crisis. Highly recommended for the person who just wants to know a little more about the area.
