Simply a cute and interesting story!!! I tell you it was a real page turner for me. I've always enjoyed Bettye Griffin's stories. In spite of everything, Ivy and Ray gave into their love for each other and not letting others' opinions of their differences in social and finaancial background stop them from seeking each other out. You must read this story! This romance is somewhat similar to my husband and me and our romance with each other. Yes, opposites do attract! I can attest to that!

Closer Than Close Arabesque Bettye Griffin 9781583142769 Books Reviews

This story starts in a way we can all identify with, preparing for our high school reunion and wanting to make a good impression, however, what's different for Ivy is that all of her classmates think she died! Through a clerical error and a common last name, Ivy Smith finds out she is no longer among the living alumni, however, she plans on attending the affair and correcting the mistake in person. She's successful, ambitious, and single - the first two by choice and effort, the third - because she keeps meeting men who can't handle the first two! She certainly cannot rise from the dead and make her grand entrance all alone! By chance and through another clerical error, she meets a handsome postal clerk, Raymond Jones, and both wonder if the sparks flying between them are enough to bridge the gap between their worlds and help them find a common bond that will get them through the one night, and possibly last forever! This story is becoming more familiar as women move up the corporate ladder, and it is interesting how differently men and women adapt to the different roles that being the top breadwinner sometimes forces you to play. I really enjoyed this book - Bettye's writing is real and contains elements that we can all relate to in some point of our lives. It is romantic, but not too sappy and keeps you engaged throughout the read. I am a long time reader of Bettye, and she never fails to develop characters that we can care about and want to walk along with through their experiences. I encourage everyone to check out this talented author!
This book was slow and boring. Ivy Smith and Raymond Jones were a nice enough pair but their relationship contained little heat and absolutely NO!! fire. Mitch or Ray they both were so low keyed I was almost hoping she would chose Bethany her equally wealthy sister friend. The secondary characters were predictable and irritating, I had to force myself to finish this book. Many women earn more money than their men for some it's an issue for some it's not, either way they GET-OVER-IT or GET-OVER-each other, in the case of Ray and Ivy it would not have made a difference. I give two stars for Ray's daughters Mya and Yolanda who as far as I'm concerned was the only good thing about this dull story. I have never read any other books of Ms Griffin although I have one on my shelf, I chose this one because a website I visit gave it a good rating. They must be grading on a curve because it was truly a waste of the time I could've spent reading something a little more compelling.
Ivy Smith in in her late thirtys and is a hardworking and established woman. she is not romantically involved with anyone and her Twentieth Class reunion is approaching. Ivy wants to attend the reunion, but she does not want to attend this event without a date. She is perceived as very successful in Business, but totally unsuccessful in the romance department. Her family being the first to think this way. Ray Jones is an ordinary guy in his Forties who is employed at the US Post office. He is also a single father with sole custody of his 2 daughters. Now the views by all is that Ray and Ivy are definitely unevenly matched. So do you allow finances to run your life totally? Does a woman have to make less money than a man for the love to prosper? (well you will have to read the book to find out). Now some say that Mitch is more suitable for Ivy with his Prominent Career and his handsome self, but then there is the Esquisite Bethany, Ivys well to do Friend. This story tells of Love, relationships between family and friends. Bettye Griffin has done a extraordinary job with this novel, she has brought this story full circle and it is truelly an enjoyable read. Fatherhood is a tough job and a joy and you love Yolanda and Maya. You will also recognize Casey and Elgin as someone you may know also. I highly recommend this story... very well done. Also it is a read for anyone, just the right mixture for all readers.
Ivy Smith's class reunion is approaching. After searching the class' website, she finds they have her listed as dead. This incidents makes her want to go to the reunion even more. She wants them to see that she is not only alive, but alive and doing very well for herself.
Ray Jones is a very responsible guy. His wife died from a freak accident and he is left with two daughters to raise, one a teen and the other a small child. With the help of his mom he does a wonderful job at caring for his children. He meets Ivy at the post office where he works and is attracted to her.
Ivy asks Ray to accompany her to the reunion and she would pay for everything. I believe at first Ivy didn't think Ray could afford it.
At the reunion Ivy meets a classmates cousin and she thinks he's tha bomb! She decides to go out with him and has a nice time, but when she meets his braty kids, she wants to strangle them. They really got on her nerve and mine. LOL
I think Ivy went out with Mitch because she felt he was more her equal financially. She couldn't help but think about Ray though.
Ray asked Ivy if she wouldn't mind helping his daughter with a school assignment and she agreed. Ivy finds a kinship with Ray's daughters although his mother didn't necessarily like it.
I think money can be an issue in some relationships. It's the way you handle them that determines if it will work.
I like books by Bettye Griffin that have children in them. They seem to light up the pages which is the case in CLOSER THAN CLOSE. Bettye's books aren't filled with alot of hot sizzling love scenes and that's just fine with me. I really enjoyed this particular story. My favorite Bettye Griffin book is A LOVE OF HER OWN.
Enjoyed book
